Anybody seen these trailers.

the company is called Rough Out Products. I like the light weight of the idea, granted not as sturdy as an AT or military unit, but having two dogs that think they are kids has me looking for family style sleeping.

the big thing I don't like is the torsion axles, but everthing els looks pretty good.

Looks pretty cool. I'm looking to "build" an off road pop-up next year. But for $8,500 I could buy and modify a pop-up into a wicked machine!

This doesn't sound right to me:
"Bigger tires help fuel economy"
I can't think of a way that statement would be true on a trailer.
Anybody else want to help me understand it?

less rolling resistance.

Take a 2" caster wheel and roll around your welding table. It's a good push.

replace those with a 10" wheel and you will do it with one hand...

Not sure I buy that. A bigger tire has a bigger footprint. Bigger footprint equals more friction, greater rolling resistance, greater frontal area, more wind resistance, reduced fuel economy. Vehicles optimized for efficiency, such as land-speed record cars and electric vehicles, have the skinniest, smallest tires they can get away with. Bigger tires increase friction. That's what you want on a driven wheel. Look at a top fuel dragster: huge tires on the back; tiny tires on the front. Tires on a trailer only hold up the load. They don't need traction, except in wet cornering conditions.

Looks interesting. Not sure about attaching the tent side with velcro. My experience is that velcro wears out. Don't other pop-ups use some type of channel attachment?

torsion axles are not very forgiving

Educate me. What are the limitations with torsion bar axles?

IDK about on a trailer but I got 3 more MPG's running 35's over 33's on my old Chevy Truck. The truck didn't have OD it had a th400 and it would turn the same rpm's at 80 that it turned at 65 with the lil tires.

Reduced engine RPM on a motor vehicle means reduced fuel consumption. That doesn't apply on a trailer. The size of the trailer tires would have no effect on the indicated RPM of the tow vehicle.

It's gets back to that question "What is an off road trailer?".

If you put larger tires on a trailer for ground clearance, or spring it over does that make it an off-road trailer?

Rock crawling tests the ground clearance and protection of a off-road trailer, but wash board stresses the integrity of the whole unit, chassis, suspension, body.

The construction and fasteners used are also critical for the longevity of an off-road trailer, it would be pointless to have ground clearance, load capacity, comfort, and amenities if the trailer started to fall apart.

We use a few different terms when identifying trailers;

Modified: lifted, larger tires, or both, no change to suspension, body, or chassis.

Ruggedized: Lifted, larger tires, protection, no modification to suspension or slight modification, or incorrect application of suspension. No change to body construction. Slight modification to chassis if any.

Off-Road: Lifted, protected, strong chassis, applicable suspension, use of applicable fasteners, resistance to vibration and stress.

As someone said you can put lipstick on a pig..........:cow:

Sone made these same mods to a little pop up here on Expo for a fraction of that cost, his name slips me but it is the pop up mod thread.

I wouldn't even buy one for $5K. You can get a basic AT Chaser for around $6000 I think. To each there own but why buy that trailer for $8500 when you could get a really nice AT trailer for that???? If not a AT a Conqueror Compact. The only reason I bought my M416 (which I still haven't had time to work on  was so when I'm done I hope to only have $5K in it or less. For the price it doesn't look like your getting much

And I think he did a great job, no disrespect intended. When you get into projects like this you have to understand what you are starting off with and what you will end up with once you are finished. An on road trailer modified for off road use will have it's limitations.
