I was just curios if there are many of you building a 2 wheel drive F-250 or 350? I know 4x4 is nice however depending on where you are traveling with your vehicle the 2 wheel drive will get you to most places.
If you do have a 2 wheel drive ford truck, how did you lift it?

Thanks for your time.....

While my truck is a beast in 4wd, especially with the locker, it's pretty pathetic in 2wd off road.

On road the traction control works excellent as a limited slip. As long as you stay on dry roads, go for it. Fabtech makes a 2wd kit IIRC.

Well that is not much fun...... for those of you with a 4x4 Ford what are you building?

Long term game plan:
4x4 F250 CCSB, Fx4, 6.2L
-4" BDS 4 link lift.
-King 2.5" shocks.
-Method NV 18x9, +18mm wheels
-37x13.5 Cooper STT Pros
-Yukon 4.88 gears.
-30% window tint
-Bushwacker extend a fenders, painted to match body
-Yukon grizzly locker in the front diff
-Capris 6.5' Retreat camper when the trucks paid off. (loaded, minus microwave, minus front window, minus outdoor speakers)
-Hinged, receiver mount tire carrier, with a flat shelf over the tire for a cooler or generator.
-mud rated tire chains (4)
-cable chains (4)
-high lift jack with a winching kit, rope, and 60' chain.
-tire claws (2)
-assorted tools.
-spare alternator, spare starter, portable air compressor
-stock bumpers for now, it's not a hardcore ride, I haul dirtbikes for that.
-Sumo rebel springs
-Fox ATS steering damper (as soon as Stage3 gets them in stock, hurry up guys)

Honestly though, for now I'm (re)building a 2220 sq foot 1950's colonial. 4br,2.5bth. That's eating up my disposable income for now, but it's nice wasting money on something responsible for once.

To Infinity and Beyond!
What body style 2WD F250/350?

Single cab? Extended Cab? Crew Cab? Short Bed? Long Bed?

What year model? 1997 and older Old Body Style (OBS) or the 1998 and newer body style?

With 2WD the shorter the truck the better for off-road with 2WD and a good locking rear differential of some manner is mandatory.

Suspension lift option recommendations will depend upon the year model of your truck or a truck you are considering for purchase.

I used to own a regular cab 2001 2wd F250 with a 5.4 and a manual transmission.

My father back then owned a 1999 F250 4x4 V10 auto trans extended cab.

We somehow got the exact fuel mileage.

I don think I would consider a 2wd F250 unless I was planning to 4x4 it down the road.

Some 2wd vehicles are okay, but the super duty's really suck in 2WD because all the weight is up front. The engine weighs a massive amount. I have gotten stuck before in a freaking mud puddle with my truck in 2wd, but in 4wd I can drive over a damn snow bank. It's night and day difference.

There's actually NO REASON I can ever think of to get a 2wd over a 4wd. Even if you only want a 2wd and will never use 4wd, you are still better off paying the extra $3,000 for 4x4 from factory, because when you go to resell it you will probably get 2x the price for a 4x4. No one wants 2wd. As mentioned above, the gas mileage is negligible

I just got stuck today, dumping oak leafs at our cities local mulch pile.

Raining cats and dogs. Broke through the grass layer and down to soft clay. Axle deep.

Had to shovel a bit and put a log under each rear tire. Then full throttle on the rev limiter in 2nd gear for the next 20yards, with the front brakes desperately trying to keep the front axle from diffing out. That's with the elocker on. I keep my tire claws under the back seat now, not in my ''recovery box'' that was at home.

There's no way I'd risk a 2wd. It wouldn't have stood a chance,

So what would a truck like this be used for? Mainly dirt/sand/dunes? I assume if so you would switch out to paddle tires in the rear when there, or?

Yep, mainly desert pre-running. Was trying to find a video of it, but no luck yet.

Here is one of their Rangers, the F250 would be a bigger version of it. You can use a 2WD truck offroad, but you're going to need speed and momentum to get through stuff.

Thanks! I was thinking more Pre-Runner than anything else.

You're welcome.

While they are more at the extreme end of things. A locker and proper tires will get you most of the places you want to go in a regular 2WD truck, just need some weight in the bed. We had a F350 dump that was 2WD that did "ok" around soft dirt/muddy construction sites. But it also had aggressive tires and a heavy dump body on it. Like anything...just don't go looking for trouble, 'cause you'll end up finding it. ;)
