Great Program at $300 ...

at $80 it is an incredible loss leader.

Been using Aperture since 2006 and love it.

Like Michael I use lightroom, but at $80 it's tempting. I suppose that is exactly the idea.

No Reason to Switch

Although I much prefer to Aperture to Lightroom (see my long thread with Trevor the Canadian), there is no reason to switch. Both are good programs and each beats the other at various things. (And that will change with various releases.)

The only reason to switch would be if there is some feature you really can't live without, or the Lightroom's modular workflow starts to bug you.

In my case, I lust after Lightroom's new noise reduction but would never put up with the user interface and I could not live without soft proofing for printing.

Agreed. I depends on your workflow too. I actually like lightrooms interface for the most part, but for printing and a few other tasks I use other software better suited for the final product.

Long way of saying that if aperture has some element that I really like I would find a way to add it to my work flow at this price. No plans to scrap entire workflow. That said, I don't know of a feature that I covet, mostly curious about the product.

$80 is a good deal.

I've been using Lightroom since 1.0 was first released (actually -- I'm still using 1.x). I guess now is as good of a time as any to try Aperture out. I'm tiring of doing all the post processing on the laptop (PC) and then moving it over to the iMac . . .

freaking awesome software! It is so easy and helpful, I love it and recommend it highly. We have over 30K raw images organized neatly running on a regular macbook with external harddrives for storage. Get it!
