ARZ's 86 4Runner

Always been a Jeep guy when it came to off-road stuff. But I haven't been wheeling in a number of years. Family. Job. Blah blah.

Newly moved to desert SW (Las Cruces) and picked up a sunbaked, but nicely preserved 86 4Runner. 22RE, 5 speed. Pretty stock other than some aftermarket wheels and 31s.

Plan is to make a reliable daily driver and desert explorer. Not a hardcore wheeler. Not dropping in an RE-t.

Starting by losing the running boards. Changing all fluids. Needs a brake job. And I smell gas at the back end all the time. Need to fix the sagging rear end too.

Let's start with some pics and such.

The loops look like they were added aftermarket. But the part it's bolted to looks like it had some function?

Tie downs are factory, my old '88 had the same ones. The bit they're bolted to is the top of the rear body mount. Never did figure out what the sheet metal flange is for, but I'm guessing it's for strengthening the mount.

I don't know if the threaded bungs on the roll bar are specifically for that purpose, but a buddy of mine has a 1st gen and he retrofit 3 point belts from a pickup into his backseat so his kids could go back there. Looks pretty factory, to me.

Nice, low miles 'runner, congrats!
