I currently own a 2008 Ford F250 V10. With 4.10 gears, leveling kit, and 35's I manage to barely get 11mpg on the highway. That's to be expected and wouldn't be a big deal if the fuel tank wasn't so freaking small. Short beds only got a 26 gallon tank for some reason, which means ~200 miles i need to start looking for fuel. This leaves me a few options. One being jerry cans, which are heavy and are more suited for emergencies. The other is a fuel transfer tank like this one http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200370683_200370683 and use it in with a 12v pump and nozzle. The con about this set up is having to pull over to fill the main tank. The best option is to retro fit the gravity feed kits that they make for these tanks ( http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200315501_200315501) and make it work with a gas engine. Its been done before on older V10's but I don't know if the system on the newer trucks will recognize the extra space as a leak and give me a check engine light. I know they say the gravity feed kits are for diesel only, but from what I can tell its due to emissions, not any outstanding safety issues. Anyone have a solution for carrying extra fuel for these thirsty rigs?
