Aux Tank Won't Fill in High Heat?

Well it's been like 100 degrees here lately.. and i went to Vons (discount member gas, like costco or sams club) and i could only get 1/4 tank into my aux tank. Stock tank filled just fine, but aux tank wouldn't take anymore.. the dumb pump kept popping off. Does this have to do with the heat??

Boston Mangler said that this may have to do with their pumps? He said Costco and other discount membership stations have this problem? Is this true?

This sucks, cause i really would like to fill up both tanks and save some coin all at once!

Any thoughts? Anyone else ran into this problem? This would suck if you're out on a trip and unable to fill the entire tank. And, yes. The tank filled fine last time at the Union 76 station.

I'm going to take a guess here... I also believe it has to do with the gas pump nozzle. I have not looked at your filler tube/tank selector assembly that closely but perhaps when you flip your aux tank diverter valve, the fuel splashes up at the nozzle and makes it shut off. There are a few different shut-off mechanisms and the nozzles seem to be of varying length so this is probably why it happens only sometimes.

The fix? Try pulling out the nozzle as much as possible so it is up far away from the flapper. If you must, just hold the tip of the nozzle in the tank and pull the vapor boot on the nozzle (if equipped) back as the pump won't operate with the boot extended. But be especially careful not to overfill as the the pump's automatic shut-off mechanism won't be working as it normally would.

Just a guess though. If that doesn't work, trying pushing the nozzle all the way into the tank without letting it go, pull the trigger.

Please let us know your findings.

i have the same problem with my stock tacoma fuel tank.. its very irritating and i usually end up holding the nozzle completely outside of the filler neck to get it to recieve any fuel..

i was hoping to solve the problem by junking the stock tank all together and use a 22 gallon isuzu tank between the framerails under a custom flatbed :D

Oh man, you guys are reminding me of the 100 gal tank in the Crew Cab Chevy that a former employer sent me to Chicago in. Had to hold the fill nozzle upside down and only just barely pull the lever. At 500 miles to the tank I only had to do that more than once a day, once in 8 days.
