AWD Diesel express- was it offered?

I have seen a few (2-3) AWD Chevy express sportsmobiles with the Duramax engine. To me this is pretty much the unicorn (mythical beast) of family haulers- my question is did GM actually offer the van in this configuration and if so when? Also if they didn't was a swap performed? I am pretty new to the GM van world but I would guess since they offer the van in diesel and in awd it wouldn't be too hard to put one together from both.

I don't think GM ever offered a Diesel AWD drive, as AWD is for the 1500 only, and the Diesel for 2500 and 3500.

HOWEVER, you can get a new 4WD (part time 2-speed transfer case) diesel express easily - Quigley does the conversion.

I don't think the AWD drivetrain would last a week behind a real diesel..

My electrician runs a Duramax Quigley Express 2500. What a beast! It has about the same ride height as my flooring installer's AWD Express. We have a ton of 4x4 vans up here. AFAIK The full size Chevy/ GMC rigs have a AUTO selection that works very well, though I'm not sure if the Duramax has that same t-case. I only have experience with the half tons, and full size with a floor shifter.

No, GM only made AWD with there small V8, so the only way to get a GM 4x4 van with a diesel is by doing what Coby Jack said, order or find a diesel Exspress & have Qigley do there conversion.

x2. If you saw an AWD or 4x4 diesel Express van, it was custom conversion. No such animal ever came from the factory. There are Chevy 2500 AWD vans out there but they only made them for a year (2003 IIRC) with gas engines. After that, it has strictly been the 1500 vans.

Thanks for the info, I can't seem to find the ones I saw that made me think about it... too bad- it would be a great combo (at least the diesel with awd/4wd- not the diesel in front of hlaf ton running gear!)

AND, our Chevy(and Ford) Quigley's all have a nice lever for shifting the case....

This appears to be a Quigley conversion done for Sportsmobile. That is the "4x4" sticker they tend to use.
