Bought new by the US Forest Service to provide backwoods transport of hotshot firefighters in Gila New Mexico. Currently outfitted with 8 seats in the rear which are easily removeable. I bought this truck with the intention of doing an overlander conversion. With more aggressive tires this vehicle can go anywhere as proven by the forest service. Now age and health prevent me from carrying on this project. I'm willing to take the $10K loss and let someone with more energy take over and have reduced my asking price from $49,995 to $39,995
This is a 2010 model WorkStar 7400 in excellent condition as evidenced by the forest service recent upgrading and maintenance. It currently has 169,000 miles on it. This vehicle is smog exempt even in California! No DEF is required. It is equipped with a new 20K lb. hitch and back-up camera. It has ice cold air in the cab and the box. The air brake system works perfectly as do the air ride seats.
The drivetrain is a proven 9.7L diesel with 950lbs of torque which is mated to an Allison 5 speed transmission. Driving this truck is a real pleasure, my petite girlfriend says she likes it better than her SUV! It does drive and run perfectly with no issues. Tires and brakes are like new. Fuel mileage is better than expected, with the cruise on at 65 mph I'm getting 16 mpg.
I'm the first non governmental registered owner, when I told the DMV it was an RV I got out the door for $334. Registration is good until April of 2025 and have clean CA title in hand. Hi, So sorry, just saw your message. No, the forest service only ordered these in 2wd because after testing they found that when equipped with "knobbies" on the rear the performance was adequate for fire roads and off road use. Before I bought it I watched videos of it offroad and short of rock climbing, it did amazingly well. I had the tires
changed because my plan was for motoring on pavement and or dirt roads only.

All the Forest Service crew buggies I've ever worked on had a diff lock or limited slip in the rear and with good tires did pretty good offroad.
