Happy New Year!
Finally, I'm actually getting into the tear down of the D60 I picked up a (long) while ago. Pretty fun to tear it down. It's decently crusty and as expected, nuts and bolts needed a bit of persuasion to loosen up and come off. Man size wrenches, air impact guns, BFH, all thrown at it! And of course who doesn't like using fire as a tool?! Anyways, I got the passenger side torn down and the axle shafts removed. The shafts themselves have some pitting and rust, as do the axle tubes. I sprayed both with a strong cocktail of PB Blaster/WD-40 and will hit them with a wire wheel. Will this suffice? It seems like the axle tubes don't need to be a perfectly shiny machined surface since the shafts don't actually ride on the tubes, so I'm hoping I'll be ok there. As for the shafts, will I be ok cleaning them up, or is it recommended to get new ones? I'll double check, but they don't seem to have any weird wear. I will of course replace the u-joints. Thanks for the input.

I also wanted to get opinions on what paint to use...spray can or brush on oil based? thanks!
