AZ Off Highway Vehicle Program Ambassador

I've only glanced at one or two threads here about use & restrictions of off road vehicles in the state, I gathered that somebody in Maricopa County was leaning toward reducing roaming around on dirt roads to knock down the dust problem....

Well, I ran across this classified ad in the Sunday AZ Republic. It's just one job, but what could it mean? Somebody with enough power to steer AZ State government in one direction or the other when it comes to allowing or banning OHVs from state park land, and maybe more if this person's recommendations get spread around?

Good, I hope this means they canned the idiot who was running this thing. I applied to be a volunteer for this program back in March and never got so much as a thank you email. I sent another email and called again in July where I had to leave a voicemail...nothing.

I would be all over this if I qualified. Someone intelligent please apply for this job!!!

"implements, and monitors OHV projects and activities to assist land management agencies in addressing OHV recreation and management issues." .....Agencies, plural.

Tempting, I have maybe 90% of the requirements, but what's a fella to do if you are on the side of responsible OHV use while policy makers above your pay grade seem to lean toward reverting the land back to its appearance in 1630?

I looked at this job a few years ago....and I seriously do not envy the guy (gal?) who ends up doing it. Having to balance land use while you have 100 "squeaky wheels" on all sides of the issue calling, e-mailing, showing up at your office, filing lawsuits, etc., all while you (nor the state) has the funds to properly administer the program or enforce the laws (which brings about more lawsuits, more "squeaky wheels", etc).

To be effective at this job, you really need some intense communication skills, arbritration and bargaining skills, a level head, and the ability to set your own goals, agenda, likes/dislikes, and opinions aside.

This is a thankless job that would probably drive someone to drink....

NO THANKS!!!!

A little update: looks like this project has been turned over to the BLM for now. I got an email on Tuesday saying that they were finally putting a training together and that my application has been accepted...6 months later. Of course they are doing the training the weekend I fly to NYC and its the only one they are doing this year so I'm once again left waiting.....
