Hey guys,
I am working on developing a workshop, the Single Track Summit, to bring riders and land managers together to discuss the development of epic single track trails. The workshop will kick off with a presentation explaining why single track is important to our recreational experience and show photos and/or short videos of what this looks like. Additionally, we will be showing media of what the OHV community can offer land managers to help (clean ups, trail maintenance, educational outreach, etc). The goal is to educate the uninitiated land manager about why we ride, what we offer, and sustainable nature of these trails.
Adding old trails back into the system and even creating new ones is possible post Travel Management. It is happening at the Kelly Canyon Motorized Project in Flagstaff right now. We are in the planning stages of developing an enduro route near Buckeye. A grant application just came in for developing riding trails near Cornville. I am actively seeking partners. My program at AZ State Parks funds this kind of thing, and we have plenty of money to make it happen. The missing piece is you. I am rallying those among us who have the desire to make a positive difference.
Yesterday, I kicked things off with a planning session for the Summit at Apache Motorsports. Clubs from around the state sent representatives to help shape the workshop. 20 riders showed up and donated 3 hours of their Saturday to meet and brainstorm ideas. We are moving forward. I will be sharing details via my OHV Newsletter. We are shooting for early Spring 2014 for the workshop to take place.
How can you help at this stage? I am collecting photos and videos showing the items I mentioned. I would like to develop some nice short videos to stitch together a story. I am looking for someone with media expertise to help develop a video or powerpoint presentation. While I can not pay someone for these efforts, you will be rewarded by knowing your work will help motive folks to make new riding opportunities.
Interested? Post your photos and youtube links to this thread. While the focus is on single track, photos of highly technical riding, small community economic impact (lunch in cool places), bike camping, kids riding, 2 up touring, etc. would also be appreciated. I want dual sporting to have a nice representation, and I know you guys can do that. If you can take on producing the media project, please email me to discuss.
Thanks,
