Backpacking in the AZ Superstitions - UPDATED!!!!

Thanks to some great advice from the ExPo gang, I just returned from a sweet trip in the Superstitions. It was a bit of a short trip with only 35 miles covered in 3 days, but it really was great. This was my first jaunt down there and I must say, as a hiker not usually drawn to the desert, I was amazed by the rugged beauty of the place. Did I say rugged? We traveled some of the lesser used trails and my arms look as if they were mauled by a million thorns, needles and scratchy bushes; because they were.

If you get a chance, head down.

Absolutely
If you look up the Peralta trail it is a very nice hike through the Superstitions

Rose and I did a 9 mile hike through it, looping back to the parking lot area. There are trails that go all the way to Canyon Lake. If you could plan it, you could leave a car at the lake, go back to the Peralta then hike to your car. It would probably take 2 days at about 9 miles a day. You may want to have a good plan for it, because you will definitely be out there when you get to the middle of your hike. The day hike was fun, but I am sure you could just camp out and stay in a really beautiful area for a few evenings. Views of Weavers Needle are just one of the landmarks you will see.

I have a friend who has spent a lot of time hiking and camping in the Superstitions, he always spoke very highly of the area. So from the little that I know from him I would say it should be a great area.
