Backpacking Isle Royale (9/2 - 9/9)

I'm posting my backpacking trip report to Isle Royale here. Just got back home late Sunday, and my dang job keeps getting in the way of finishing the report, so I decided to split it up into parts. Here is Part 1 on some cool places in the Michigan Upper Peninsula that we visited before ferrying across Lake Superior to the island.

Isle Royale Trip Report Part 1: Marquette, Gitche Gumee, Canyon Falls, Houghton, and the Quincy Smelter

I'm hoping to get the actual backpacking report done tonight or tomorrow night at the latest.

Nice! Enjoying it so far. It's fun seeing an outsider's perspective to the area. Glad you enjoyed my hometown of Marquette too. Isle Royale is my favorite National Park in the lower 48 due to the remoteness and lack of people. Too bad you didn't get to travel further up the Keweenaw to Copper Harbor. I have a paddling trip written up on my blog from last summer on Isle Royale. I think seeing it from a boat is the best way personally. Looking forward to your next installment.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check out your blog post as soon as I get out of this meeting. While I was still on the plane, I started writing a "Part III, how I would plan my return trip" post and I had the exact same thought about sticking to the coast. Next time, I want to kayak, canoe, or maybe even sail around the island and then just do dayhikes inland.

Right now, my dream job is to move out of corporate America in the next 3-5 years and teach business law or business to undergrads. I think it would be really awesome to take a summer and/or fall semester to be a visiting professor at NMU or MTU. Don't know how I would handle all that snow in Nov/Dec, but I definitely couldn't handle Jan - May haha.
