Baja 500 Videos

Here are 2 short videos I shot one year ago during the 500. The first is Robbie Gordon fighting it out with BJ Baldwin for first place just outside of Erendira.
The second video is at the same location and I named it " Baja 500 Motorcycle Racers Worst Nightmare. If you have speakers turn up the volume for the full effect of a Trophy Truck roaring by or like I do wear headphones.

I will be filming tomorrow during the race and this is to give you a small taste what the race is like. Hope you enjoy. George

How did you get involved in shooting the race?

I got involved by living in Erendira where the race comes through. Since the race is almost 500 miles in length there are plenty of areas to just set up your camcorder, or in my case a Flip camcorder, and shoot away. The course is not closed so spectators are everywhere. The race can become addicting and dangerous as one can get right into the action and way to close to the racers. Watch the attached video I shot at the same time last year. At the end of the video you will see a huge rock fly over and I was at that time kneeling below the tripod and taking photos with my digicam. We measured the tire tracks after he roared by and they were almost 3 feet away from me. You will hear on the video I did become somewhat crazy because of the rush I was feeling. A couple of off color words did emerge. The link to video below:

I'd probably say worse things than you did! That would be pretty exhilarating to have a trophy truck blast by 3 feet from you!!!

I can vouch for it being exhilarating!!!! I was using a 14mm wide angle when I shot these. I had one of our videographers holding my belt from behind to pull me out of the way if anything started going wrong.

By the way, A really good friend of mine is hanging out the side of the helicopter that flies over in the first video. He shoots all the video for Norman Racing.
