Bantam T3

Just picked up a 1944 Bantam T3. It’s in good condition with a few things I will be working on. Biggest challenge currently is the lid with the addition of Roofnest. Very difficult to open, with 2 250lb gas struts. I am questioning the placement. Lid opens from the side with about 300 - 350lbs on top, estimate. Will get some picks of gas strut placement. Did spring over today, glad I did… one shock was gone. Let me know if any thoughts on lid. Thanks!

No responses, so I’m gonna go w some 300lb struts and reposition. See how it goes.

The required strut force is going to depend on the total weight of your lid + RTT and the placement of the struts. Here is a picture of the strut placement on my M416 lid. Total weight of my lid with rack is approximately 210lbs. No RTT. I have a single strut on the front. The lid opens virtually hands free with a single Suspa C16-28663 gas spring: Center-to-Center Length * Extended 36.3" (922.0mm) * Compressed 20.2" (508mm) Force 150 lbs (667 N).

I ended up going with 300 pound struts. They will push lid up without my Roofnest Falcon (165lbs), but my rtt lives up there. With tent it is perfect. On to rear drop jacks, wiring rear plate light, and storage.

Thank you! Very nice trailer you have there.

I don't have any pics of placement handy, but my 101cdn has a steel lid and old Technitop RTT on it, total weight would be roughly 200 lbs.
A pair of 150 lbs struts opens it hands free, and takes some effort to close.
