Battery isolation?

When choosing battery isolators for trailer mounted batteries what amperage rating should I use? Do I choose a higher capacity than my maximum alternator output? My Jeep has a 116 amp alternator, would I be OK with a 95 amp vehicle mounted isolator to charge the trailer battery. ?

The amperage flow rate will be limited by the battery's internal resistance as well as the resistance of the wiring. The alternator may be capable of producing 116a, but if the wiring and battery limit the flow rate to 10a, then that's what will flow.

Sure, a 95a rated unit will be more than enough.

i have the blue sea 7622 system. Its a 500a magnetic latch VSR. It works flawlessly and its less expensive than the competition. Plus you get a nice remote control swtich.
