Hi All,
Here are some pictures of my Unimog build so far. It is not fully finished yet but useable. With our first family adventure in it last night.
We started with a 1985 ex australian army unimog bought at a localaution approx 12 months ago. The tray has been lengthened by 600mm and has had a 50mmx50mm 2mm wall thickness duragal steel frame. This has a outer sheeting of fibreglass 2.5mm thick that was purchased from DCTECH Fabrications in Sydney. This isgenerally used on tautliner trucks etc. Then the USA made windows and doors, boot hatches installed. The tray was stepped and had some steel steps built in. I then modified a stromberg carlson 2 step electric step to a quad step which has made entry easy for our family. A section of the plywood floor was cut out and had a piece of chequer plate installed for a Ford Transit seat installed. This has two child restraints in the rear. We alsoinstalled a child restraint in the front so one of the kids at a time can go for a ride up front with dad. We made a set of bunk beds with the top bunk retractable, the bottom bunk also adds as the third rear seat for Mum to be in the back with the kids.We will install aensuite and have installed the timber walls but yet to fitout. Should be done during winter. We have a 23litre surburban gas/ mains power electric hot water heater to provide hot water to the smev sink and ensuite. The inside is lined in 9mm AA grade Marine ply, Australian Standard. The remainder of the interior is trimmed in Tasmanian Oak. The wood work takes me a while as I have limited wood working tooling. Measure 3 times cut once, sand finish well. A massive under bed storage area is present under the queen size bed. A roof hatch allows access to the roof of the camper .The whole truck has been mechanically refurbished.
It has taken us 12months to get the truck to astage where it could be engineered and registered as a Motorhome instead of a truck.
When I work out how to add pix I'll start uploading these.
Hope you enjoy.
