BFG.......Take me away!

Just a little rant (sorry) to express my dissatisfaction with my Nitto Terra Grappler's overall snow performance.
I purchased these to give Nitto a shot as they have been recommended by many as and alternative and because they were quite a bit cheaper than the BFG's I'd normally buy.
With friends and family in town for the Holiday part of the plan was to get out and play in to snow.....that was if my tires could have taken us there.
I really don't have any complaints about their performance in snow up to 12 inches but pack it down and these tires will skate like Kristy Yamaguchi, even with aired down to 15 psi they still suck! I have never had such a terrible tire.
they would be a fine summer tire except for the fact that with only 10k on them I'm already down to 50%. Which is a good thing as I will soon have a reason to buy new tires
BFG.....................
End Rant.

Not good to hear, but good to hear an opinion on these in snow. I was considering them for a bit but will nix them off the list :)

I ABSOLUTELY HATED MY TERRA GRAPPLERS! Not only did they wear stupid fast, but they had absolutely no traction in most situations. Then one blew out. Replaced it, and within a couple thousand miles another blew out.

My old boss has the mud grapplers on his truck (2500HD duramax) they are wearing better than my terra grapplers did...
But he has blown 3 on his truck?!?:Wow1:

We are both very observant of tire pressures.

I was glad to go to Kumho Road Venture tires... for like $100 less per tire!

I'm much more tempted to test Toyo and Cooper over BFG though.

Sorry about the dud rubber.

It is true, you get what you pay for.

I have 40,000 miles on my BFG ATs and am only half way through the tread. Plus I like their classic look.

I also thought my Terra Grapplers were terrible in snow. They were great other than that though.

My dad has Terra Grapplers on his 09 Ram Mega Cab and punctured one the the sidewall in the pasture with a stick. He bought another one and kept the old one. I noticed that the sidewall was very thin and flimsy. The rest of the set are very close to needing replacement after ~20K miles, but part of the reason is because he tows a pretty heavy trailer with it multiple times a week.

I can honestly say that I'm open minded when it comes to products, be it tires or bikes you have to earn my loyalty. BFG has done this for me, if BFG let's me down I'll say it and I'm still not afraid to try other tires but I hate wasting money. But whats most irritating is to have a tire that you don't trust to take you out to do the things you love to do which a large part is playing in the snow but not this year.
Ok, I'll stop whining.....for now.

I have Terra grapplers for the first time after using BFG for to many years. I never had a problem with my BFG except for the last couple of pairs did not wear very good but that could have been because of the vehicle. I purchased the Nitto after talking to people who had them and I never had bad complaints on them. I think all tires can have there moments of punctures and blowouts and as far as wear the vehicle has so much to do with that.

I to was stoked to try the Nittos. My buddy got them and let me drive his 4runner. They were pathetic on ice. Didn't get to test them outside of that and I don't need to. I need something better than that.

Goodyear Duratracs are making me very happy this year in the Sierras so far. Much better ice/snow traction than the BFG AT's ive had in the past. no experience with the terra's, but glad i didnt go that route.

I don't know, I have Treadwright mud tires and they were like $250 cheaper than the Wrangler MTR and I love them so far. I have about 8k miles on them and they still look good as new.

Another knock on the Terra Grapplers, hated them on my truck. I felt like they gave me no grip on even slightly slick surfaces, whether it be dirt or the street. Handled terribly on wet roads too, at least I thought.

I also felt they wore stupidly fast. Couldn't see them lasting more than 25k miles.

I switched to the BFG All-Terrain copy from Treadwright and I'm satisfied so far. No long term report though.
