Thanks for your expert opinion. If this was a P rated tire mfg by a Chinese cheapo company, I would say, don't bother. However, this is a BFG heavy duty tire designed for off road use. FYI, some tire manufacturers such as Continental and Michelin say a tire can last up to 10 years. So, use your best judgement.

A 6 yo tire is not safe to use.

My beater has a set made in 1991. I drive it 100 mph through school zones all day long

Ditto on what RoverDude said - cheap tires sure they might disintegrate. Good quality tires can last.
I swear the date code seems driven by planned obsolescence and liability hand wringing

You can use at your own risk but some tire shops won't even mount the tires on rims if it's older than 5 years. Also if it was your spare and sat in 90+ weather for a bunch of years I'd be hesitant on buying it, if age didn't break it down, heat would. But that's just me...
