bicycle suspension wheels

Loopwheel is a new idea to provide bicycle suspension. It might work with smaller wheels, as illustrated. I think the idea would be too heavy when built into larger wheels. (Sorry Flounder, it's another Kickstarter project.)

Cool design and definitely outside the box thinking. But other than casual rides around the neighborhood, can't think this would be any good on trails. Which then begs the question--why do you need suspension? This issue, along with wheel flex, power-efficiency, would make it seem less attractive to many bike enthusiasts. I'd put it in the same category as Landrider.

I wouldn't mind these suspension wheels, though.

Yep, cool looking design, but I'm seeing a couple issues.

Without dampening, the "suspension" will bound with each bump/pedal stroke.
Also, I bet they have a lot of lateral flex. Probably why the brakes are at the hub instead of the rim.

Interesting idea as you say though the lateral flex might be an issue.
I expect the damping comes from the opposing spring and the material the loops are made of.
It would be difficult to have rim brakes on a moving rim.

Certainly an elegant design
