If it's Kickstarter I wouldn't hold my breath. Even if it gets funded, many of the successful ones aren't delivering on their product in the promised timeframe, or for some of the ones I backed, at all.

There are some great commercial offerings out there now.

This is not something clever nor innovative. Just a copy of many other RTTs already in production. Just get a tent from a established vendor.

Although it resembles any one of a few current manufacturers, the early bird price of $1495.00 is certainly far less than what you would pay for any of the established brands.

So ... it's probably worth taking note of if you're in the market for a rooftop tent in the delivery time-frame, and if you'd like to save up to $1500.00+ compared to the cost of an established maker.

These hard shell roof top tents aren't really rocket science, so one presumes that they would be sturdy and weather-proof ... really the two major concerns with hard shell tents.

Ditto for me. Still considering it but only based on the Kickstarter price that is about half of its competition... I contacted them to find out where it's made and if there will be a warranty but have not had a reply yet.

Got a reply from BlackFin. No surprise -- given the price -- that the units are Chinese made. They offer a "1 year warranty" but no details. The shell clamping method was not clear to me -- it's a "Ratchet type system along with a Velcro strap for back up and more leverage" (whatever that means).

The more I look at it the more I see similarities to another maker. Hold a sec

Keep in mind investing in a Kickstarters is NOT a purchase, and neither the price nor the delivery dates are have to be accurate in anyway. They can literally be nothing more than what the creator imagines at the moment he's typing the description.
If it works out then it's cool that you got an RTT for $1500 off. If it doesn't work out (and the cheaper the kickstarter the more likely they are to fail) you may lose your entire $1500 investment or at best be waiting years for delivery.

Personally I get irritated when 3-5 business days shipping ends up being 5 days; I'm not waiting 3 years on delivery of my tent. I may not even have the same vehicle by that time.

Project suspended by Kickstarter... No reason given, all pledges not charged. Kind of a bummer but if they were mis-representing themselves then I'm happy no money changed hands
