I currently drive an X5 plug-in hybrid, that I use for everything. Ranch/farm roads in the western states, forest roads in the north, highway commuting and everything in between. I use the X5 for daycare drop-offs, backcountry hunting, hauling trailers, and MTB/Ski trips.
The vehicle has been flawless, and has done everything that I have asked of it thus far.
Specs include the height adjustable air suspension, which gives me a couple of extra inches of ground clearance when needed.
I come from a jeep background, so the off road capability is obviously not anywhere near my old wrangler, but it does handle the 95+% of my driving substantially better.
Anyone else using an X5 for their expedition vehicle?
So far mine is almost entirely stock, but I carry recovery gear, MaxTrax, first aid, etc.
Any tips or ideas on improvements?
Obviously I am aware that this is not a perfect vehicle for outfitting for expedition use, but it is great to live with day to day.
