Nearly finished the trail but had to cut it short around mile 64 due to the high winds. Came home a day early.

Still Good times

We were going to camp somewhere on Bradshaw friday night. Those winds were fierce.

Yeah, it was hard to hide from. The first night we camped in Painted Canyon. The second night we just dealt with it at Wiley Well. The 3rd day we bailed out.

Where abouts were you?

My wife and I were making our way back from AZ to SoCal.
Our Maggiolina handles the wind pretty well but we decided to head for the nearest In-N-Out rather than sit in camp getting covered in dirt.

Oh right on. Yeah, our RTT handles wind just fine... it was the noise that kept me awake all night i didn't like. Some earplugs would have worked great.

I'm a light sleeper, so I always have these around, since they are the best of all the foam earplugs that I've tried, they are available at most drug stores:

Too bad the wind cut your trip short. I was nearby the Bradshaw on the 15th (at Cornsprings Petroglyphs) and it was a beautiful night. The next night was at Picacho SRA right on the Colorado, and that was also beautiful (except for the wild burro that was making awful noises all night, I think he was trying to re-connect with the herd).

Then on the 22nd, we were going to camp a little North of the Bradshaw region on our way back from Arizona, and the wind was blowing so hard, we just drove all night to get back to the Bay Area.

Thanks for the link MTB'er.... yeah it was realy windy at Wiley Well. I figured the river will be the same or worse so we just shot up Wiley Well rd. and headed back on the 10.

Weird weekend. I lost my bbq on the 10 freeway coming out. My whole plastic storage container flew off (i strap it down the same everytime) when we hit a huge gust. it had my bbq in it, brush and charcoal. The charcoal landed on my spares on the back. Thank god nobody was hurt. Then one of our chairs burned in our campfire. I watched the campfire for 3 hours straight. I was the only one up. The rest of the group woke up and sat around the fire.. i get up to get something and i hear "dave you burning a chair?". I guess im the only one that can watch a fire ring properly???? LOL Then my buddy lost his sunglasses. Just a real weird trip!!

On the other hand SPOT did perfect! Checked in each and every night when we reached camp. Tracked us without a hitch also.

MountainBiker- In addition to having you pass 10' in front of me on Broken Arrow, it sounds like we were on nearly identical routes last week.

Most excellent, I have been going out there for about 28 years now and I find new and different trails each time. I usually go out Grahams Pass and find areas where camping is permitted and secluded. I also loved the geode fields south of Wiley's Well.
Thanks for the pictures and I am glad you survived the winds, we hit them the end of Oct and they blew like I have never seen them blow before.

We did a rotisserie turkey Thursday night in Painted Canyon. It was some work, but well worth it. The stand is homegrown.. something i through together in a few mins. I ran the rotisserie motor off the inverter. Thing was on for 5 hours. We had to lower it 3 times, thank god we drilled lower holes!

Anyhoo.... rotisserie turkey in the field! yeah!

Mmmmmm....In-N-Out.....:chowtime: An appropriate addendum to any adventure.

Cool photos Dave. I recently sacrificed a chair to the campfire gods as well. Dang wind. Crazy to hear about the BBQ but the dual spare carrier looks boss.

Looks like another good trip, with the exception of the grill, the chair, the wind, and the glasses. It still looked like a fun time. You just have to remember,,,A bad day in the bush is better than a good day in the city! HEHE
