Besides the nice article in OJ, what do we know about this unit? Will there be any tracking feature? Will there be a subscription?

I figure the $800 price tag is not that bad if it has some of the tracking/website features of the SPOT depending on subscription rates. If thre is not subscription then the Ceberus seems like the better deal. If you buy the SPOT and $100 yrly fee you have bought the ceberus in 5-6 years. But if Ceberus does have a subscription fee, that is another matter and the decision comes down to feature comparison and sattelite technology.

Here is another article on the new device.

I'm a long time expedition portal lurker and a member of the Cerberus dev team at BriarTek. I haven't received my copy of OJ and have yet to read the write-up. Yes, there is a tracking component to Cerberus that we call breadcrumbing. CerberLink will let you drop single breadcrumbs, add text to breadcrumbs or drop breadcrumbs at regular intervals. You can send breadcrumbs as you collect them or edit breadcrumbs collected throughout the day on your smartphone and send only the breadcrumbs you want to send. the Cerberus web portal, CerberCenter, adds your breadcrumbs to a map that you can share with friends. You can also have those breadcrumbs displayed on your Facebook page. We have not published message rates, but there will be several types of service contracts that we will offer to users to meet their usage requirements.

A few features that Cerberus has that you won't see on SPOT are:
1. Bi-directional communication that will allow you to message in real time, 2. True global satellite coverage on the Iridium network &
3. Four users can log onto a single CerberLink and message in parallel. I can keep going, but will leave it at three...

Let me know if you have other questions; I'm happy to answer them.

lew_sa,

Thank you for posting up. As I don't want any companies getting in trouble for discussing their product, if they are not a sponsor, I will not ask any more involved questions. But, as a general user with no relation to any product, I have to say that I am highly interested in seeing your full product launch. I will especially be interested in see the Smartphone inteface and the web user experience.

There was a video posted by Briartek of the Ceberus on youtube, but it seems to have been removed. Hopefully they will post it again.

the count down is done on the web page but still no info...not a good sign from a company that needs to be reliable in service and product

Sadly, it seems this product may never come to market. They have a new webpage for it, but it still does not say much.
