Brunton Matchless Lantern

If you're talking about the Brunton Glorb Refillable Butane Lantern, then yes, I've used it. It's excellent; puts out a good amount of light (although Id hesitate to consider it 60 watts); easy to refill; easy to light; comes with the carry case; and is very small to stow away.

You can refill it using the Brunton refill adapter (Brunton FuelTool) and any of the Lindal style gas canisters, such as the Snow Peak Giga Fuel.

It is matchless in the sense that it has a piezo igniter.

Your question about refilling the canisters leads me to believe that you might have meant the mantleless lantern instead of the matchless lantern.

If that's the case, then I don't really have any feedback, as I don't own the Brunton Liberty lantern. However, I can tell you that the canisters are not refillable.

There's some good info here: https://www.expeditionexchange.com/brunton/

EE is very helpful. If you've got any questions, they'd certainly answer them for you.

I have the Brunton Liberty Lantern w/out the mantle and love it! The typical blinding white light that is associated with the mantles is not present. The light it emits is much softer and almost a little yellow, so not as hard on the eyes and doesn't mess up your night vision as bad. It also does a pretty good job dimming down pretty low to get some good "mood" lighting at the camp site:)

Sorry, brain fluff... I did mean the Brunton Liberty...
I guess it sounds like the Liberty is a good lantern, is it easy to find fuel for it?
Does it still put out a bright enough light to see and work with? Where did you get yours?
When you say you are from Riverside is that the city?

Thanks again,
Steve

Answers in order;
1. I think the Liberty is a good lantern. Comes with a nice travel pouch and it folds up very small. The instructions suck, or maybe my following instructions sucks, depends on who you talk too:) Set it up at home first and get used to the controls before taking it out. I have had it camping four times and it has performed well. One evening was even some winds of 15-20 knots and no probelm.
2. Uses any canister, couldn't be easier to find fuel for.
3. Yes, the light is bright enough for a campsite. I have typically left it burning lower as I don't like too much light at night in the camp ground.
4. www.expeditionexchange.com. You could probably find it cheaper, but I have always appreciated the information on this site so I buy from them.
5. Yes, I live within the incorporated City of Riverside, which is within the unicorporated County of Riverside. There is supposed to be a river around here somewhere...:)

I've been considering the Brunton Liberty as well. Does anybody know if JetBoil butane/propane fuel canisters are compatible with the Liberty?

Yep, I use my JetBoil and Snow Peak canisters with it.

Just as long as there is no mantle or globe to break I would like it, also in the wind is important. I shall order one today as well as a case of fuel canisters.
As for Riverside I was just wondering becasue I worked there for 30 years, I did see a "river" once in a while.
Thanks agian,

I've also got a Snow Peak lantern with a globe that I can't stand. Two things, first the globe itself gets brittle and is hard to install. Second, the light is really bright and hard on the eyes at night. I've run the Brunton for a long time on the small canisters. I would guess I probably get about 5 hours per small fuel canister? I think you'll like it, let us know after you've used it.

The good Ol' Santa Ana River is what I guess Riverside is named for, or maybe the river of cars and smog:gunt:

I hope to have it for the Pyramid Lake trip and I will make a full report on it.
As you said smog and cars, they are two of the three reasons I left, gunshots being the third..

Ordered mine and a case of fuel last night, if the lanterns won't light up the night I am sure that some other means can be found.. Tequila most likely.:wings:

Got the Brunton and tried it out, seems to out out enough light and as was not so brilliant as the propane lanterns are. I think they are a good light and are sure able to fold up into a neat package. They sure get really hot, wonder if you cold cook or make popcorn on them??:chowtime:
