I made this as a how-to as it relates to bolting a panel on our roof rack at Victory 4x4, but it's a good overview on how to put cheap solar in your Tacoma with other racks as well ?

If the panel ends up rattling on the rack, adding a few strips of shower pan liner to the bars will help. Home stores often sell it off the roll.

You may need to protect that charge controller from moisture.

Great call, I also thought about some strips of 3M VHB on the panel as well if it rattles. Yes, on the charge controller. Likely will replace it with a waterproof one of better quality.

As long as you aren't planning to remove the panel without damaging it, 3M VHB should work fine.

You might be able to put that charge controller inside a small plastic case or a double-gang wet location box without too much trouble.
