Burnt Land Rover Dormobile salvage

One of the casualties of the 2007 Southern California Fallbrook fire was a Land Rover Dormobile. I persuaded the owner to try and salvage any of the special parts that he thought could be rebuilt. For instance 109 station wagon Dormobile seats fold down into a double bed and one of the front seats can reverse and face the rear seat with a table between. The rear seats face forward and can fold up against the wall for additional cargo space. The fire burnt the upholstery and bent the frames, but with some blasting and straightening an upholstery shop should be able to rebuild them. These seats are almost never found loose from a Dormobile.

I set up a web page with jpegs that the owner sent. The parts are free if picked up but he wants a $25/item packaging fee plus shipping cost for anything he ships

Please contact Dean < foothillbldg@sbcglobal.net > directly if you are interested in refurbishing any of the parts.

Here's his message to me:

Hi TeriAnn -

I got down to Fallbrook last weekend and pulled everything that I thought had any residual value. I believe that all four seat-frames and reclining mechanisms can be straightened and salvaged. Rear door, including tire mount and lock will need a new skin, but can probably be reused. Radiator mount/fan-shroud is pretty good. New and unused Rover half-shafts stored inside vehicle got hot enough to warp (long shaft), but could be straightened and heat-treated if anyone wanted to bother. Upper berth mechanisms might be straightened and reused, although longitudinal tubes and angles will have to be replaced. Pull-down shelf with legs could be good with a little straightening of panel. All this stuff would be free to a deserving home for pick-up in Pasadena. If I have to pack and ship, figure $25 packing charge per piece plus freight.

I also have a pair of power takeoff bits and two sets (5 ea) of steel wheels for sale. Original 16" (narrow-track) wheels have been blasted and powder-coated. Later wide-track wheels went through the fire, but appear undamaged, and have been cleaned up and primered.

Rear bumper-mount PTO adaptor appears intact, but will need disassembly and rehab. Transmission PTO adaptor got hot enough to distend and crack one end of case, but perhaps could be welded and line-bored, and internals may be OK.

I shrunk the jpegs (they were about 12 meg each) and put them on a web page for easy viewing
