2019 Sprinter 3500 - 170" | Moto, Camper, Tow Van






Decided to start a build thread for the van we just picked up yesterday.

It's a 2019 Sprinter 3500 170" with a dually axle in the rear. The main reason we went with the 3500 was the ability to tow the Malibu Boat



This is going to be a multi-purpose build for the Moto, Weekend Camping, and Towing the boat out to the lake. It will have an elevated bed above the bike and some things like a dometic fridge, Maxx air fans, Maxtrax, Baja Designs lights, and a few other goodies.

Crystalline Window Tint will be added very soon to keep the interior cooler and protect it from the sun. A complete wrap will come as well.
More pics will be posted as we get things moving.

It's 4x2. We didn't need the 4x4 for the places we are going

Todays project was an insulated subfloor.

We chose 1/2" insulation and 3/4" marine grade plywood. We also put wood strips in some of the floor grooves to help fill some of the gaps

The plan is to put a hardwood style laminate on top that is waterproof and scratch resistant

Looking good. I would comment that 3/4" plywood, especially marine grade (high stiffness), is unnecessary for the majority of builds. 3/8" high strength, or 1/2" low strength is plenty. Especially if you are using a stiff plank flooring. Saves a bit of weight, and standing height too.

You're probably right, we wanted to go a little overkill for the KTM and other bikes that will get stored on the floor.

Yeah, its just weight.

I would also suggest sealing the plywood with a clear sealant. Even marine grade will absorb some water or odors, and its cheap insurance. I suggest sealing all wood surfaces which will be in the vehicle.

We just did a Satin Black Hood Wrap and Tinted the windows on this 2019 Sprinter 2500

What do you think? Should we wrap the hood of our van? We already tinted the side windows at 5% and plan on tinting the windshield at 80% with SunTek ceramic film

We just started installing the laminate and hope to have it finished this weekend

Another thing we added were the MB trim pieces that go behind the seats for a cleaner fit and finish up front. I'll share some pics this weekend

A few updates...

Laminate is in and we started boxing off the wheel wells. The plan is to panel them off with a hinged lid up top so we can store a few items in the cubbies. Our goal was to keep these as low to the floor as possible while clearing the wheel wells.

A Maxx Air Fan was added to the roof as well. This is the deluxe model with manual opening lid and 10 speed fan

Roof insulation and paneling should be installed this week. More pics to come...
