Calling all Chevy square body fans, calling all Chevy square body fans

We visited the Reagan Presidential Library this past Saturday and they had a SWEET '86(?) C20 Suburban on display as part of their 'motorcade' vehicle layout. Behold, in some of its glory -

I didn't press my face on it or pay much more attention in passing. Was busy gawking at the plane over my head, but I thought the fans here might like the pics.

Here's a bonus. They have the Boeing 707 he used on display in this huge space. Ceilign is about 4 stories high, there's two balconies with displays, the Suburban is on the 2nd deck. There's a pub on teh ground floor. The HUGE window is like a hangar door, but from the 3rd deck you are on par with the flight deck, and looking out the window across the west end of the Simi valley, it's almost like you are flying. They've contoured the hilltop outside the window to drop sharply away, so there's nothing ni the foreground but a narrow walkway, increasing the visual effect.

The rest of the museum and layout is also nicely done, lots of interesting things to see and read. Well worth a visit, convenient from most of SoCal, especially in L.A. The museum portion is well laid out, all the segments of his life and work. It's very informative and a good history lesson. Adult admission is $16, reservations are only running about a week ahead, so it will be easy to schedule a visit.

There's also a real nice 'on loan' exhibit on the early years of American Football. Lots of trophies, uniform gear, period art and advertisements. It's there for about another four weeks. And there's a big Vatican exhibit slated for March.

I remember in the 80's and 90's Regan and Busch would fly into the base at MCAS El Toro and the secret service would be driving those Suburbans. The would call them the "War Wagons" I was always in envy as the opened the back and had a cache of weapons.

Very cool. I've always loved the squarebody style GM's. Ever since i saw the title sequence to Fall Guy i have been obsessed.

Nice! Noticed the grab bars on the back end with the slightly extended bumper for the agents to ride on.
Also looks like the front may have some blue hubs sticking out of the hubcaps, you sure it's a C series? Looks like it could be a K or V (4wd). I think I see a bit of the front leaf spring bracket in the passenger side picture.

I have heard a lot of good comments about the Reagan Library, going have to schedule a date to go soon.

Perfect! Kennedy Electric here had a side biz of scooping up surplus Forest Service vehicles at auction. They had a few '89 era TBI barn door'd 2500 manual transmission Suburbans in stock. Aside from the color, they were in great shape with low miles. Rollup windows w/AC. I kick myself for not getting one.

yeah, good eye, brain fart on my part. I have an '85 C10 pickup, I was thinking 3/4 ton and just 'translated' it as C20 instead of K20

This was also used by Bush Sr and Clinton too

In that era, the rig was a support rig; two agents would ride in the back with the back window down and be facing rear.
