Camper Covers for Winter - What are you using?

Hello fellow Pop-Up camper aficionados!

I have been doing some research on winter/fall/spring camper covers specifically designed for Pop-Up campers, and to be honest, I am finding not much. I see a lot of threads all over the inernets with people using covers that sort of kind of fit, but I am seeing nothing specifically designed for our slide in campers? Odd as there are tens of thousands of them out there. I see more every day from all sorts of places and many new brands out there.

I see a few videos on people who made their own out of a cheap poly tarp, which is an option I guess, but that does not breathe, and really it is less effort to just toss a tarp on it.

Anyone have any luck finding one, or is this just not a thing? I pinged a Canadian manufacturer to see if they would modify one they sell (says they do custom orders), but that is a long shot.

Happy camping!

Covers are a two edge sword. If you get a non-breathable vinyl coated one, you trap any moisture in and things look rugged underneath when you take it off because it will have condensation form. On the flip side, a breathable one, at least the ones I've used have just let water run thru like crazy, giving you an equal mess to clean up in spring. If your camper has ANY potential spot for a leak, this is not helpful.

What I do for a trailer I have now, is I put two Styrofoam cold shipment containers on the center of the roof to create pitch (water run-off), then fit a heavy harbor freight silver tarp to cover the roof, but only down 4" all the way around. Then I put the breathable cover on it, and open the interior roof vent slightly so air can get to the roof under the tarp.

Snow and water cannot permeate the silver tarp but it can run off over the edges. The breathable tends to soak that up and dissipate it as it flows down. The breathable does not sit tight against the side walls at this point, so it all tends to dry pretty well. I do sew my covers to fit the way I want them too, so having sewing machines makes a big difference!

I bought one of these because they are shaped to fit a slide in and there is a zipper for a rear door. Only problem is it fits too large for my camper. I haven't decided if I am going to cut it and sew back together or just get rid of it. It definitely too large as is to even try to make it work.

I do the tarp thing. Put a wood frame of sorts on the roof so the tarp stands off and is proud on the sides to have some air flow. Fold and tie down the sides to the ground/weights.

When it snows, I push broom the tarp clear.

Cheap and effective. But I think some kind of more permanent structure would be best.

Camper has moved around over the years, is presently at side of house. I did a material list for constructing a corrugated roof overhang but never proceeded. Also considered a ShelterLogic type standing canopy.

If you are going to keep it for a bunch of years and have the location, it might be worthwhile

I have a hard side not a pop up but I also use a wooden a frame type thing on top of it with a simple tarp. It lets it breath under the tarp and also helps most of the snow slide off. It’s my first winter with it but it seems to be working well so far.

Eventually once the old camper has had its rebuild I hope to get at least a lean to built off my garage to store it under.

So far I have picked up a very good quality double sided tarp and some good bungie cords. I will be making a frame to keep the tarp up off the roof and to shed water etc. No lock really on the covers for these... sort of gave up looking.

The Canadian manufacturer responded with a polite "no thanks" to making a custom sized one.
