I am getting a new 3500lb trailer axle.hub for my M416. Any idea if I can somehow use the M416 hand brake on the new axle/hubs? Is there a way to mod it to fit on the new axle?

If you bought the brake type axle, yes. A new axle prepared for brakes has a square plate attached to it that your brake backing plate bolts up to, then your old, or new hubs with brake drums will fit over the brakes mounted on the backing plate.

We are talking about drum brakes. Disc brakes are a whole other can of worms and not used on M416 or M101.
Axles come in two varieties, brakes or no brakes. You can use no brakes type hubs on an axle that has the brake mounts, but cannot use brake type hubs on a no brakes axle (i.e., no mount).
