the bag i got does not match the photo, it has a fixed length strap/ handle, its got 2 straps on the bottom in an X to support the weight.

I bought a few from a military surplus store a few months ago and love it. I use it around the garden, camping,and lately during power and hurricane parties.

My dad had one in the workshop when I was growing up. When they moved, it got thrown out. I just bought one that is vintage through Ebay, but new and unused. I will cure it as directed above. In looking for the answer to the "why" above, I found this link: http://ernielb.blogspot.com/2008/05/canvas-water-bags_8692.html. Maybe the sugar cuts down on the "varnish" flax taste quicker.
