Carpet Options

Hi,

I'm interested in learning about carpeting options.

I recently had a spill on the carpet which required some cleaning and drying. I tried to remove the section of carpet but found that the Land Rover DII uses large pieces of carpet that are bolted down by the seats and other trim. I was able to dry everything out but it got me thinking about what a pain it would be if the entire carpet got wet in a water crossing or open window in a rain storm...

One solution would be to remove all of the carpeting, trim it into easily removable sections and reinstall it with special effort to conceal seams.

Any other options or products out there. Good looking or close to original would be a bonus.

Thanks
Brian

I had the same "problem".
I just cut the carpet in pieces.

There are 2 pieces left, on the driver side floor and the passenger side floor.
If I want to remove the carpet for whatever reason I can just unscrew 2 "bolts" in the front and unclip the rest of the clip type thingies and pull it out.

It aint the prettiest way but it works :)

Thanks,
That is certainly an option however I would need to make any seams as hidden as possible, not too difficult I suppose.

The biggest challenge I found was the front carpeting actually going up and over the transmission tunnel and covered by the center consul.

A bit different from my old jeep, I could pull floor mats and the drain plugs!

An option would be to have the seams on top of the transmissiontunnel / centre console.

Depending on the amount of plastic and the way it is mounted, it should be possible to have the seam under the plastic and still be able to just pull it out.

I tend to pull the carpet after the first soaking and while it is drying out I remove all that wool backer from the carpet and the floor. Then I insulate the floor with foil bubble wrap and reinstall the dried carpet. Thereafter when the carpet gets wet I just stick a fan or a heater in the rig and dry it out. Without that spongy underlay, it doesn't take too long.
