Castor correction wedges on a 60 series

When I bought my HJ61 it came with OME springs, greaseable shackles, etc. Now to me the steering always seemed a little funny but since the tires were beat to death I attributed it to that. However, after several thousand miles with a new set of BFG's the steering still seems a little light and somewhat skittish particularly when in highway ruts (but it will still come back to centre). After some research I discovered that ARB makes castor correction wedges which can be used with the springs. Is anyone using these? Do they work? I have not taken the truck in for an alignment yet as I am hesitant to pay for them to tell me the castor is out and then have to pay them to do it again one the wedges are installed.

Thanks,
Jason

Things to check;
Steering linkage tie rod and relay rod ends
Play in steering gear box
Wheel bearing torque.

Any of those things can cause the steering to act a little skittish.

Also BFG apparently change quit a bit in the past few years. I just paid $600 to get an almost new set of BFG MT's shaved into round. They still have lot of weights on them to get into balance. If they hadn't come with the truck I would have taken them back to the dealer.

BTW my FJ60 had all the above problems when I bought it. After each fix the truck drove better. Now I pretty much drive with one hand on the wheel and feel very relaxed.

First, yes OME makes several different caster wedges in the correct width of the Land Cruiser spring. Its not uncommon to run them, I would guess maybe 1 in 20 has a need for them.

Best bet imo is to get an alignment by a compitent shop. While they may or may not do anything to your actual alignment, their printout should give you an accurate caster angle reading. Post up your results and we can make some recommendations from there.

Thanks guys, from what I see I will have to get the alignment done first to know where I stand. In the end the steering is not that bad, it just seems rather light.

you should not need to wedge anything if your shackles have not changes length (theoreticaly) your caster> should have remained the same with the spring lift, unless the pinion was rotated up. start with the linkage components first.
