CB antenna mount issue

I am looking to install a CB (Cobra 18wxst2) with a Firestick antenna and mount it on the toolbox. After talking with a local CB shop, they advised a little will antenna instead as the toolbox would need a whip which I do not want. Any recommendations on a better location as I have read that the Firestick antennas are exceptional? Please advise as I am a novice on CB installs. Thanks!

I have that exact setup now, works great. The only concern I can see is grounding. If your going to mount the antenna to the tool box, make sure the tool box is grounded to the truck or run a ground wire directly from the mount to the truck.

Thanks for the insight! that is where I am a novice. I am about to install a factory toolbox on a Nissan Frontier which uses the utilitrack rails. I would guess that that would firmly ground the box to the truck bed. I was looking at the Firestick 3ft model with the tuning tip. So that being said, the CB should perform well? Also if I run the coax from the front and then under the truck, would I lose any performance?

If you have a mulitmeter, you can verify the ground easily. Mulitmeters are cheap. You can get a nice one from Harbor Freight for $5 or less. Running under the truck should have no effect.

I used the 18ft firestik coax with fire-ring and a stud mount.
