Charging trailer batteries

Eve guys,

This has been on my mind a while. not started my trailer build yet, but thinking ahead (as always).

basically as the title, how best to charge say, a single 100ah batt using the vehicle.

The reason I ask is that I have a few options.

At present I am running a pair of batteries in the D90 using a high amp split charge unit and 60a alternator.

I have just bought 2 100a alternators and you can buy kits here that let you run twin alternators on the 300tdi.

so, I was thinking twin alts to both batts in the D90 with 1 on split charge to be wired to the trailer.

The trailer batt wont require its own alternator as I only plan to install some interior lighting, some 12v sockets and the power for the water pump/filter. I doubt I will be adding much more than that (fridge stays in vehicle).

So what do you think? and how best to wire it? I was going with a seperate anderson connector for the charge cable. and what happens when I am not using the trailer? will the split charge kick in and ruin my alternator?

thoughts please.
