Checker HID problem

Greetings...

I bought 4 7 in Checker HID's. It was a simple installl. Drill 4 1/2 hole on the bumper, wire it up and light 'em up.

They work great.

The problem: When im on a bumpy (think washboard) road, they vibrate which can be seen where the light goes. It very irritating.

Any solutions?

The problem is that your bumper is not sturdy enough to mount 4 7" lights without having vibes.. My '99 4runner had a decently thick strip of metal underneath the metal bumper shell.. Plenty sturdy. I assume yours isn't as robust.

I recommend getting a strip of metal 5/16's or so.. Maybe 3/8.. Drill matching holes and install it inside the bumper.. So run your bolts through the bumper, then through the metal strip.. This will beef up the mounting location.. Depending on your bumper though, this may or may not help.

Thanks for the feedback. I did exactly as you described. Got some scrap from a friend and bolted it right up. Cranked the bolts do as tight as I could without breaking the lights.

Test drove it on a washboard road close to my home.
RESULTS:
NO IMPROVEMENT

Any other suggestions?
Thx

if you feel that the mout between the light and the bumper is properly reinforced, go to the next attachment in line: the bumper

make sure your bumper doesn't vibrate and is tightened correctly.

Without pictures we're all guessing in the dark as to what the bumper and the mount look like.

Try stacking a few rubber washers or something to isolate the lights and absorb the vibrations before they are translated to the light housing.

With those lights you might also try taking a folded over piece of bicycle tire inner-tube between the mount and bumper.

Need to run a strap off the top of the light. My Rally 1000's I mounted on a bracket off the core support then put a strap off the top back to the core support. That took care of the bounce. You might get away with that with them on the bumpers but the bumper and body do move differently on full frame trucks. Thats why I made the 1/4 thing bracket to the core support.

Also the law states lights above the headlights have to be covered on road. Lights at or below headlight level can be run on the road. THese type lights are better the higher you can get them so that was as high as I could go and stay legal. I also tied mine in so they came on with the highbeams.
