Child Lock Question

Hello everyone, I'm new here and to the work of G-Wagens; I bought one yesterday (1985, 280ge). Does anyone have experience getting the child lock feature to work? One of my doors works okay, but the driver's side mechanism is stuck. I gave it a pretty good whacking yesterday with a dead blow hammer and it wouldn't budge. I sprayed the inside as best as I could with penetrating fluid and still had no luck. There are two tabs that shift, and I damaged the smaller thinner one that is on the bottom, and the one on top is kissed up against the top of the slot, so it is hard to hit at a good angle with a punch. If I take the door panel apart can I access the linkage? Any other tips? Thanks!

Update:
I found out that what I thought was a tab is actually a tack weld, and I'm going to try to break it later on today.
