Choosing between a LC or a LX

Both are locked, both are from 1996, both are $8,900, both are stock and extremely well cared for.

The Land Cruiser is black with 175,000 miles and the LX-450 is bronze-ish? with 140,000 miles.

This is actually not for me, but a girlfriend who desires an expedition vehicle, and plans on fitting it with all the good stuff.

I got her set on a Land Cruiser, but I could use some help choosing between the two. As far as I can tell, they are the same structure with slightly different facades. Is there any reason to pick one over the other? I'm thinking Lexus (lower miles, more cozy), but I don't know much about cruisers...

She is smoking hot if that influences your ability to help, I know it did mine :)

I chose the LX for the extra goodies that one receives over the LC. I don't regret it. I go to the Toyota dealership for my parts.

Sounds like they are essentially the same condition/maintenance, so it makes sense to go with the LX for mileage if anything.

Just my opinion, but I looked for a Toyota Land Cruiser and passed up all of the LX's. Just something about it saying "Land Cruiser" on the rig.... :D LX's were nice, too, but I didn't want any of the extras that came with them.

Clint,
Agree with the extra goodies.
Prefer the color of the LX = better for desert travel. Also conceals the trail rash better than black!!

Lower mileage also a plus.
This post is useless without pix!!

I have the LX450 with the Bronzish color. I think it's called "Desert Dune".
Go with the lx, it has extra goodies and lower mileage. The trail pin striping dosen't show up badly. Also it's awesome when you lift it, armor it and throw a snorkel on it and get the shocked "Thats a lexus?"...

I Prefer the simplicity of the LC stereo and the extra cubby hole in the center console. That being said, in this case I would also go with the LX...

with condition being about the same I'd go LX, lower miles takes it. I'm more impressed - two locked to choose from. :wings:

I have a 97 LX450 and had a 97 80 series.

Tan interior is discontinued, as in good luck getting interior parts new.
The windshield for the lx is money (750 bones). There is no aftermarket windshield that matches the bronze tint, period. There are aftermarket for the cruiser that matches their tint and most shops will tell you they match the lx as well.

You can pull the vin on the lx and call any Lexus dealer and they can search the service history across the country.

The center console on the cruiser is more user friendly than the lx.

There's nothing better on the trail than giving your jeep buds crap about getting whooped by a Lexus :wings:

Great that you found 2 "Locked" versions. In this case go with the lower mile and NOT black rig, go Lexus! We've had ours for a few weeks now and absolutely love it!!!

Good luck!!

I looked for over 3 months daily and gave up on a LC and found a nice LX450, locked and low miles. It's an awesome rig.

Go with the one with the least rust, best condition, least amount of accidents/paintwork and most service records. IMO, the Lexuses, in general, seem to be better cared for. But not always the case... especially when 2nd or 3rd owner.

I am the 5th owner of my locked 97 LX450 with 160,000+ miles. All maintenance was tended to and past some surface rust on the rear gate the truck is PRIME. You can't really go wrong with either like the previous post said go with the one that seemingly has the best maintenance record and shows the smallest amounts of rust, otherwise not much can hurt a 80 series...I personally prefer the dash styling of the Landcruiser to the LX, but on the other hand love all the other goodies in my LX. The LX if you read the original marketing info has 'IMPROVED AERODYNAMIC HEADLIGHTS' which is a crock of **** there is just a small slit under them that allows air to move through them...

I got my LX though to match my other love of my life...
