Class 5 Truck Highway Speeds

I've read a lot about how class 5 trucks (F-550/5500) are derated and have 55 mph caps on their speed. But I've also seen reports that modern class 5 trucks drive normal highway speeds.

Does anyone know what model year that change-over happened? Looking at used trucks, and I don't want to waste my time on trucks that can't got a little faster when needed.

I don't think any of them are limited at 55 mph unless the buyer has them set to that in which case you can get the speed bumped up at the dealer.
My '21 International CV515 service truck which is my work truck is factory limited to 75 mph. My personal ride which is a '21 Ram 5500 is limited to 77 mph. Both of these are set at the factory for those speeds.

That’s plenty fast! Is the rate limit to reduce wear and tear and improve
Longevity?

I'm not sure if you consider 2009 'modern', but my 2009 C4500 Kodiak came with option 'KYW', limited to 75 mph.
Of course upgrading from 225/70-19.5 to 385/65-22.5 increased the tire diameter by 24.4%, so now a theoretical top speed of 93+ mph (of course I have never verified that on pubic roads)
