Conversion Van Builds

I've had far more success finding E150 Conversion vans with low miles and low rust than I have E350s with the diesel or even early models with the Windsors. I've pretty much ruled out any modular engined vans.

I cant seem to find any builds of conversion vans. I know they are just RWD, but for those of us who aren't going far offroad, that's good enough for me. They also commonly have a high-top which is nice as it allows a taller sleeping platform.

Thanks

I'd love to know if anyone on the forum has converted one to 4x4, as I have always thought these would make great camping & weekend-weeklong beach & woods getaway expedition vehicles :coffeedrink:

I for 1 have no interest in doing a 4X4 conversion. I love the mileage I get out of my Van, I would like to lift it and put an air locker on it but all things in good time.

I bought my E 150 I bought on the side of the road for $900 with 74,000 miles. It is a high top camper. It spent most of its life in Florida. I bought it with a stac of receipts and history. Their is no rot at all on it and very little rust. It has been very well maintained over the years so I don't mind spending money on it at all. It has a 302 bolted to an AOD transmission, I have my buddy rebuild the transmission and put a complete duel exhaust system on it from the manifolds back. I had the AC converted and it works fantastic. I'm removing the roof top AC/Heating unit to install a roof rack and solar panels and a roof vent and fan. I have all ready re wired the duel battery system. I just orderd a new set of shocks for it and I'll install them tomorow. All things considered I'm into it for just over 3 grand so far, it's been a great daily driver during the summer.

The axles always worried me. Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

There have been those that have done frame/drivetrain swaps--put the loaded 150 body on a good running 350 frame.

there was a Forum member that had a 150 van and happen to find a quigley wreck. so he put his 150 body on the 350 frame and running gear.
I almost bought it, but was still in the deciding stage cause of logistics. so it can be done. but as usual it takes $.

I took the AC unit off the roof yesterday and installed a Maxx Air fan. This will be much more useful than the AC unit. I caped the shore power in the roof just in case I decide I find a use for it in the future.

Hello,

This is kinda on the topic... I was hopeing someone can help me out, im stuck. I have a 1996 E150 that I purchased with a 4" lift. The guy I bought it from said he used the E250 suspension and it has a 4” lift… It looks like he put something “spacers” between the body and coil springs; I guess it's a body lift. It currently has Bilstein shocks for an e350 motorhome! I'm relapsing them because one already snapped and I found out it was because the shocks are waay to stiff for my ride. I measured from the center of the bottom eye to the top of shock where the bottom bushing goes and its measured 16.5”. The shocks are the right size but way too stiff. I dont like how it rides also and im 100% certian its because the stiff shocks. Any recommendations for new shocks?

Thanks! Sean
