Cooper ST's?

While researching a better wearing tire for my rig, AKA an All terrian, I came across............not a whole lot. I did get a chance to see a Cooper Discovery ST in 255/85/R16lt though, which peaked my interest. Seems to have a more aggressive tread than most AT's in this size, which is what I'm after.

Couple of questions, Has anyone run these tires, how did they perform, wear, etc.? I was also curious about side wall durability also. Price wise, they are very competeive with the BFG Muds I have now, so these seem like a good replacement.

Thanks ahead of time for any input.

Ive ran 4 sets of them in the last 3 years or so, decided to try the stt this go round. They are a great all around tire. E rated I had around 40,000 on each set and ran them to the wear bars about every nine months or so.
wet heavy deep snow and mid range mud they are great. pure montana gumbo not so great, gravel roads they did fair. and really resited rock chucking pretty well. after this set is done Im thinking of going back to them.

ST? do you mean STT? I haven't checked so you might be right. I love mine I run them as my offroad tire set and they are great, though in gumbo Interco SSR's and like are the best. I have heard the Nitto Terra grapplers I have are tought in the rocks though I use them as my road set.

I think, but could be wrong, that they tend towards the std sizes, I need a 33x10, otherwise my rpms will be thru the roof on the freeway with the 4.88's

Wow, if you want a 33x10.5 why are you looking at 255's 285's are 32-33 ish depending on manufacturer and the 295 nitto's I have measure out 33.7X11.4 so you should look at each tire you are considering on the factory web page and look at the tie specifications for size clarity. I knw the nitto's in a 285 were 32.?

the 255's from cooper are 33.3", 295 have proven very difficult to fit, talking to Scott about his.

Dunlop makes the RVXT in 255/85, though that may not be aggressive enough for you. I would recommend actually measuring a Cooper 255/85 before you assume what size they are (perhaps you have), but the flotation tires and private label Coopers (Pro Comp, et al) tend to be true in width but significantly short in height. My 31x10.50 run about 28.5 and my 285/75's are 32.25.

Excellent review, I think once the Muddys wear out, I'm going to try these. Like you, I want something thats alittle more aggressive than the BFG AT, But smoother than the Muds. Plus the Muds have proven a bit squirrely with my Truetracs in the wet, so maybe these will help.

Thanks again.

I was at the tire shop the other day getting a puncture fixed. I took a close look at both the ST and the STT.

I found the ST very intriguing. I may have to price them out.

About the only thing aside from the 'how they wear' questions I would be curious about is that it doesn't look like the sidewall is as agressive as say a BFG or even the Maxxis Bighorns a few have tried.

It kind of looks a lot like a mud terrain type tread on an all terrain type sidewall, if that makes any sense.

Well, the tread is actually somewhere between a mud and all terrain. Not as big lug or space as MT, not as small as AT.
