Seems like there is a growing effort in free shared creative culture. I just finished watching what I consider the most exquisitely animated feature film to come out in years, by cartoonist Nina Paley:
Sita Sings the Blues- produced entirely as a copyright-free ("copyleft") endeavor.
And it is side-splittingly funny. The candid lines from the Indian shadow puppet narrators had me in tears....oh man.
Anyway, as an art form, this thing is a treasure trove of cartoon styles, collage, design- definitely need to get the DVD version to see it large.
Apparently it's getting a bunch of film awards now.
