CROSSBOWS

I'm considering a crossbow, prefer a small pistol type, but I'm wanting a real crossbow, not a toy, one that packs a punch, say at 50/100 feet. I don't know much about these, like what range to expect, but I see 400 fps as a standard. I'd be using target and hunting tipped bolts.

Can't shoot my guns in the backyard, but I can shoot a crossbow.

Experience with bow, suggestions......?
