CSV E250 build

Long time lurker here, think it's about time to chime in with my van.
It's a 2012 E250 cargo with the monstrous 4.6. I bought the van new with the intentions of making this into a camper/travel van for the wife and I.
We bought it as a left over, and I have been plugging along for the last 3 or so years taking it on road trips to see what needed to be built to suit our needs.
To date I have insulated the van with E-Z Cool insulation from Lobucrod, added a Fantastic-Fan vent fan, 1/2 inch plywood subfloor with Home Cheapo vinyl flooring, a full size bed that runs across the back of the van, and mounted a Uniden 980 in the area in the dash where the coin tray used to live. Almost forgot the most important thing. Lula the Hula girl mounted to the dash. That pretty much covers the inside. I will post pics when it's a little more presentable.

As for the exterior I have addes Bushwacker flares, Diy rocker protection, 16x8 Vision Raptor wheels wrapped with BFG KO2s in the 265/75r16 flavor, and a 4inch suspension lift.
The suspension is my latest addition and wow, it's pretty awesome. I went with a 4" bent beam front suspension from Weldtec Designs. The install was very straight forward with no surprises. Weldtec provides the beams, modified stock radius arms (which have some pretty awesome welds by the way), and Fox Shocks. I added an add a leaf from General spring to bring the rear up by about 1 1/1 inches.
I cannot say enough about the improvement in ride. It handles big bumps and holes now like I'm riding on a cloud. I've only had it on now for about a week, and am constantly looking for bigger bumps to hit to see how it will take it. The biggest surprise was thw the ride on the highway, This thing rides like a Caddy now. I'm very happy with this suspension.

That's good to hear about the ride improvement. I'm considering doing something to the front of mine to gain some suspension travel. Stock it feels like I've only got an inch or two.

I was being sarcastic about the engine. I believe the springs are Skjacker 4" lift for a late 80s bronco .

lol I thought so, 80's bronco hmm. I really like the construction of the weldtec kit, looks very well thought out. Down the road Im thinking of putting in a detroit truetrac LSD diff in my 2wd e250...4x4 not in my cards

A locker of some sort is in the future along with a regear. The 4.6 would be much happier with 4.11 gears and the 265s.

All of this sounds familiar...have I really been thinking THAT much out loud?

Maybe we should form a support group for the 2WD "sorta" off-road crowd. We could run in "our own circles". Ha!

begin thread hijack here:

I'm leaning in the direction of the 4" weldtec kit as well. I really like what Grngiant has done, our reality is similar, mostly forest service roads, camping trips, mountain biking, and kayaking. I tow a converted cargo trailer most of the time, so traditional Expo 4WD use probably isn't going to happen. Enter the realm of the 2WD lift, choose proper tires/suspension, decent recovery gear and tread lightly.

-I have a factory 8.8 with 3.55 and Ford LSD (Trak-loc). It really doesn't perform like I'm used to with my old Chrysler LSD. I'm guessing the clutches are tired, so do I install an Eaton E-locker selectable differential, or simply order the Ford Racing clutch rebuild kit, and build the factory LSD? I've heard good/bad regarding the E-locker.

-I already installed a front receiver hitch, with the built-in recovery points, and plan to use a multi-mount style winch setup. for front and/or rear use.

-I use the Firestone Sport-Rite air springs in the back, but now plan to replace my factory springs with the 43-1033HD which should give a little rear lift as well and may eliminate the need for the air bags. (thanks Raul) I'm running KYB monomax shocks front and rear, but of course with the lift would have to change to the Fox shocks.

As much as I like the UJOINT conversion, (it is the Mac Daddy...), I have a hard time investing that much into my old van ('95 E-150 Club Wagon 5.8L). It would seem I can get this van stuck if the wind blows in the wrong direction.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

now back to your regular program:

Yes a 2wd Vans with lift thread would be excellent. Sifting through all the 4wd van stuff for 2wd info is tiring at times..
took me forever to decide how to redo my 2wd 2002 e250 suspension and lift. It was 1 inch lower in rear due to new bumper.bike rack and 140lbs of battery.
I know part numbers for simple spring lifts that work . My van is higher and happy now. Just put some hid headlights today amd waiting for the dark now..

From what Ive read so far it would seem the detroit TruTrac diff is cats ********. You never notice it until it works and and had very little maintenance and less parts that wear out.
