Just picked up my Cumminscruiser at Valley Hybrids in Stockton, CA. Georg fixed the front end then rebuilt the transfercase. Still need to replace a couple of ujoints so almost ready for spring wheeling.

I had done the engine swap 15+ years ago when the State of California still had common sense. because of the laws in here in California I will never buy another new car of anything that requires smog. I'd rather put the 30 to 40k into restoring something pre-smog.

georg says on older rigs is easy, you just request a certificate of repower. i don't live in the Republik, but i'm helping build a 4bt pig for my brother who does, so georg has been a great source of sanity in what i thought would be an insane project

Nice! Sweet looking 60!

Georg is a great guy and does good work. Did you see an ex-racing 6x6 Pinzgauer at his shop? I traded him that truck for my current v8 80-series. My 80 is a Cali smog legal truck too.

Cheers

THIS...

Maybe it's a certain mentality common to some of us (likely lots of us on this site) but few Modern (esp in the last 5 years) outside of maybe the VW Golf R and Polo R/WRC and a few specialty performance cars I enjoy, hold any interest to me. When you look at the fact that you can build yourself and tailor made car/truck for the cost of a good new vehicle AND pay a LOT less in insurance. I just don't see the point in getting fleeced by a dealership to have the latest thing that some car company come computer company (Seriously, how long before Microsoft or {shudder} Crapple just says "screw it" and starts making cars) has ordained to be "mandatory" for an AUTOMOBILE. When I finally get the thing finished I'm looking at having a little over 15K into my 1KZ swapped Hilux 130 and I think I'm making out pretty sweetly considering I couldn't BUY a comparable replacement here in the US, and were I still living in Australia I'd just buy another 70-series and drive it until one of us died. Hell I still own several old MK1 and 2 VW Golf/GTi's and likely won;t ever part with them. Not only that but it'll be a cold dark day before I ever have the ability to use "facebook" or any of that garbage in my car. THAT should be outlawed.

Great truck man... Glad to see more oil-burners out on the road/trail, and it's never a bad time to see one in a 60-series. Enjoy the coming sunshine months.

Cheers

Dave

I couldn't agree more!!! I've grown very tired of all the electronic controls on modern vehicles. Not to mention circuit overlap and the headaches that causes for troubleshooting. I love diesels, but forget new diesels with all their electronic controls. I saw the new ISV 5.0L Cummins that's going in the new Nissan Titan at ConExpo a couple wks back. It's a big block of electronics and emissions! FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm currently restoring a '68 Bronco and transplanting a 4bt for this very reason. I'll have close to $20k in it when I'm done, but it will be a new vehicle and all mechanical!!!! And, you can't buy a new vehicle that gets in the low 20s in fuel mileage, is 4x4, and will last 350k miles with just routine maintenance for under $20-$25k!!!!!!!

Cumminscruiser, I look forward to seeing some more pics of your swap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No worries, maybe he will bring it to an event some time. I know he is very fond of the Pinz and if you know Georg you know he doesn't stray far from Cruisers.

Cheers
