Custom Rear bumper, which is better one swing or two swings to carry tire and fuel

As the title implies I am wondering if when building a rear bumper with tire and fuel carrier if it is better to go with one large swing or two seperate swings...

This will be going on a Nissan Frontier that I use to camp and tow a trailer...

If your gonna be using it while trailer is hooked up, 2 would be the way to go. Don't think you would be able to get in truck bed with 1 swing out and the trailer hooked up.
What kinda trailer is that?

Thanks for the reply. The trailer is a micro lite cargolite extreme. It is great but not much more than gravel road capable.

We have about 200 plus nights sleeping in it. I highly recommend it...

I would think a split would have more advantages and fewer stresses. Able to open it in limited clearance. As with a trailer. Or parked on the street, with someone close behind you. OR backed into a parking space. Sort of moot on a tailgated vehicle, since you have to open it all anyway.

Over the years I have had both single and double
Most think a single swing is quicker and easier but with doubles it only takes a couple of seconds more really
Doesn't take up as much room to open them plus less weight on the spindles etc
I'll take a double swing out any day

Thanks for the input, I decided to go with a dual swing system

Good choice. Don't over build it. Look at metal thickness that the pro fabricators use, and emulate them. Your biggest problem will be weight.
I mounted the tire behind the driver, so when I shoulder check I can see over the into the far corner, for maneuvering and clearance. So cans on
the passenger side.

3/16 inch thick material. I know it may sound hillbilly but some are built using 2x6 or 2x4 inch tube. Doesn't look bad if you're adding swing outs and taper the ends. Best place I have found for hinge pins, latches, and hold open lock pins is Comp4x4.

My plan is to add a second set of brake and turn lights in the bumper itself...

Added question, with two Jerry cans is it best to store them side by side or front to rear.

My thoughts are front to rear to limit damage with the thinking side by side they are more likely to be both damaged...

Whichever way you turn them make them so they will slide out rather than having to lift them up and over the mount. If the hit is hard enough all of them will get damaged anyway. Side by side slide out so you only have to slide one out to get to the one you need. Any other way you have to unload the others to get to the one you need. Remember you might not be the only one handling the cans. If someone is shorter they may not be able to lift the same as you.

Personally I prefer side by side with the neck facing back (opposite the direction of travel). Really easy to fill and refueling is done with a siphon hose so the cans seldom need to be dismounted.
