Day one of learning my wife how to ride went great!

We picked her up a Yamaha XT225 yesterday and today I got her out in a field to teach her how to ride. NO former riding experience. She does have a 5speed car so she knows how to use a clutch. Got her to put on her jeans, boots, knee guards, tshirt and elbow guards... looked great!
Started off teaching her how to start the bike. Taught her about the gearing.
I first got her to just ride a big circle around the field in first gear then I got her to do big circles shifting into second and third.

Then taught her figure eights. Then figure 8s while counter balancing her weight... which she eventually was able to do full lock circles and figure 8s.

She only dropped it once, the first time she came to a stop. She stalled it once, trying to take off in second gear.

She did great and I'm really proud of her!:bike_rider:

This is the bike and my wife (not today)

That's very cool.

You either 1. are the world's greatest teacher, or 2. have the world's greatest wife. There's no way I could teach my wife to ride. If she ever gets the urge, I'll ship her off to the MSF class.

I sucked at teaching her how to drive her car. It took her dad telling her to drive it home by herself to figure it out. So, learning from that, I just gave her the overall idea, and let her play. Then gave her pointers as needed and new things to try and do, while my daughter and I played on the playground next to the field that she rode in.

Does the MSF course teach people how to ride???

thats great ! i also taught my wife to ride, she caught on straight away and really enjoyed it.

The basic MSF course starts with "throttle right, clutch left" and moves on from there. On instructor said, "As long as you can ride a bicycle, I can teach you to ride a motorbike." When you are done, you are qualified to ride around a parking lot at 20 mph. :bike_rider:

In California, passing the MSF class gets you a pass on the DMV riding test. You still have to take the written test.
