For a day trip from Mesa I enjoyed the "Apache Trail". The Superstition Mts, Lost Dutchman Mine museum and on to Roosevelt Lake and damn. You can make a loop of it and go to Globe for Lunch.

This is a great day trip! Tortilla flat has some good lunch options, and if you do the full loop, I would highly recommend "The Burger House" in Miami. Right on the main road and awesome local restaurant. If you do go to Globe, check out DeMarco's, their Foccacia is incredible.
