I've been lurking on Expedition portal for quite a while. I had plans to buy a 4x4 Sprinter to build out this spring, but my company was just acquired. As a consequence, making a $65K investment in an overland rig probably isn't the best idea for me right now. I did, however, luck in to an 89 Suburban that only has 80K (I'm sure it's on the first time around)miles on it. It used to be a fire truck, and for $2K, I couldn't pass it up.
As for the storage, I found a complete Decked system in the construction debris pile at the local dump. It didn't fit my pickup, but after I purchased the bus, I figured I could modify it and make it work. Eventually the spare will come out, and I need to build a couple of hatches to access some underutilized areas. I used 3/4" birch plywood.
